Launched in late 2019, the Polar Class 6 m/v Magellan Explorer is a state-of-the-art expedition ship accommodating no more than 100 travellers on unique 'Air Cruises' to Antarctica.

Guests may choose from seven categories of stylish accommodation, including dedicated single cabins. Most cabins and suites offer private balconies and two single beds that can also be configured as one king-size bed. Ranging is size from 20 to 40 square metres, these spacious accommodations also feature a wardrobe, individually controlled heating system, a sitting area and a private en suite with shower.

Highlights of Magellan Explorer include a glass-enclosed observation lounge and presentation room with latest-technology audio-visual equipment, a beautifully-appointed dining room, well-stocked bar, comfortable library, meeting room, gym, sauna, and medical clinic. The forward-facing observation deck leads to the bow of the ship, which is accessible to guests to offer proximity to marine wildlife. Magellan Explorer has a fleet of 10 Zodiac inflatables that are used for excursions and are well-suited for disembarking and wildlife watching.

The stylishly-appointed Main Dining Room offers buffet breakfast and lunch, and table service dinners throughout your expedition. Weather permitting, the BBQ Deck offers al fresco dining options.

Magellan Explorer Dining Room

Features

Magellan Explorer's public areas include a spacious forward-facing observation lounge and bar that is also used to deliver briefings and educational presentations. The bow of the ship is accessible to guests; together with the outdoor observation deck it offers expansive views and close contact with the natural environment during exploration. The dining room accommodates all guests and expedition staff in a single sitting. There is also a meeting room, a library, a gift shop, a protected outdoor barbecue area, a gym, and a sauna. Adventure activities, such as kayaking and snowshoeing, are available.

The ship is built to the latest Polar Code specifications and carries a Polar Class 6 ice-class (Lloyd’s Register PC6). For comfortable navigation, the Magellan Explorer features stabilisers; for maneuverability, she features bow and stern thrusters. For safety in navigation, there is an ice-detecting radar. And to reduce the environmental footprint, the vessel is equipped with an energy-recovery system that recycles the heat produced by the engines to warm up the ship and its water supply.
