Milford Wanderer

Ship Overview

Operated by: Real Journeys

The Milford Wanderer is a modern, motorised vessel first launched in 1992 after being purpose-built for navigating southern New Zealand's World Heritage-listed Fiordland National Park. Designed along the lines of a traditional sailing scow, she has old-world charm combined with modern facilities and the latest in safety equipment. In 2011 she underwent a complete $3 million refit. Guests are accommodated in refurbished twin-share cabins, altough private en suites are not available in any room. There are sufficient same-sex shared facilities for all guests to utilise at their convenience. There is a cosy and comfortable dining saloon, licensed bar, open bridge and generous deck space.

Dining

Home-style meals are prepared by Milford Wanderer's onboard chef. The galley is well provisioned and all meals are included, along with morning and afternoon teas. Most special dietary requests can be accommodated, ranging from celiac, gluten free, vegetarian and lactose intolerant, with advance notice. Complimentary tea and coffee is available at any time, and a well-stocked, licensed bar is staffed, with plenty of room to relax in the main saloon.

Features

Milford Wanderer operates an open bridge policy so you’re welcome (and indeed encouraged) to visit the Captain throughout the voyage, checking out his navigational charts and enjoying the best views of Fiordland's many sounds. There is a cosy and functional dining saloon, a licensed bar, well-equipped library and plenty of deck space to enjoy. Please note that the Milford Wanderer does not have an elevator, and interior stairs are quite steep, a consideration for those who are unsteady on their feet. Milford Wanderer travels with a fleet of kayaks for guest use, along wth an 18-passenger tender for excursions ashore. The New Zealand crew includes expert nature guides to add interpretation content and discovery to your expedition.
