Katharina
Ship Overview
Operated by: Sea Trek
The Katharina is a traditional Indonesian pinisi, built in 1995 in Kalimantan using only the very best grades of ironwood. Her slim hull was originally being planned for commercial sailing carrying freight before Sea Trek purchased her and fitted her out as a cruising vessel. In January 2014, the Katharina was again subject to a major interior refit. Working with the unique heritage this vessel represents, her transformation is a conservation exercise, using only the best traditional materials, shaped by highly skilled Indonesian craftsmen. Yet, whilst she looks traditions, Katharina is now equipped with the most up-to-date technology, safety, navigation and communications systems.
Not only is the Katharina very elegant on the water, she is also fast becoming a classic yacht, as very few of these original designs remain. Katharina’s overall length is 40 metres, providing comfortable accommodation for up to 12 expeditioners in six cabins located below decks. All cabins offer creature comforts and necessary amenities including double beds or twins, private en suite bathroom, natural light, safety deposit boxes, individually controlled air-conditioning and ample storage space.

All six cabins are located below deck and offer either a double or two single beds private en suite bathrooms with toilet and hot-water shower, portholes, individually controlled air conditioning, and ample storage space including safety deposit box.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks, juices and mineral water is available on board Katharina and is included in your fare, as are excellent meals and snacks. You'll enjoy a welcome drink and chilled towels to refresh you upon embarkation. Vegetarian diets can be accommodated upon request. Wine, beer and other alcoholic drinks are available for purchase on board; however, Indonesia has high import taxes for alcohol, so guests are permitted to bring their own wine or liquor, which should be stored in cabins as there is limited space in the ship's fridges.
Katharina's Main Deck is dominated by the 25-metre tall mainmast and a large deck table where travellers can enjoy an al fresco dinner under the stars. A spacious sun deck (with canopy) overlooks the sea and is well furnished with loungers, beanbags and deck chairs. There is a large galley and a spacious air-conditioned lounge with a television, DVD and music centre. For expeditioners so inclined, choose to 'camp out' in a swag on deck under the stars for one night during the voyage.
Take advantage of the marine world around you by using the complimentary snorkelling equipment on board, or the two sea canoes. There is a freshwater on-deck shower for rinsing off after activities. SCUBA diving in Komodo National Park may be arranged on select itineraries at an added cost.
