SE Alaska - Petersburg to Sitka
DURATION:8 Days/ 7 NightsREGION:North AmericaSHIP:Westward
An 8-day/7-night exploration of the narrow passages and small villages that lie between Alaska's Petersburg and Sitka. Watch for bears along the shores and whales in the tide ed- dies, as the classic small ship Westward transits twisting channels and ice-filled fjords. Visiting the small villages of Angoon and Tenakee Springs, talk with locals and hear stories about their lives and history. This glacial wilderness
supports a diversity of wildlife as varied as the landscape. On water, there is the probability of sighting humpback whales, orca, porpoise, and Steller sea lion as well as numerous seabirds. On terra firma you may see black bear, brown bear, and mountain goats. There is plenty of opportunity for exploring ashore by foot and by kayak. The route and anchorages are chosen to provide the best available opportunities to experience the rich and diverse environment of this temperate rain forest.

Operated by: Pacific Catalyst
Westward has a long and storied history, dating back to 1924. She was launched as the flagship of the Alaska Coast Hunting and Cruising Co. and pioneered hunting, fishing, and adventure travel in the remote regions of Washington, British Columbia and Alaska. During WWII she served as a patrol boat for the US Navy before returning to private ownership and a circumnavigation of the world. In 2012 she was purchased by Pacific Catalyst cruises and underwent a complete rebuild, although she remains dependably powered by her original Atlas Imperial Diesel Engine. Westward accommodates no more than 10 guests on her Alaskan, Pacific Northwest and Baja California expeditions and is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places.
