Sea Cloud

Ship Overview

Operated by: Sea Cloud Cruises

Take a virtual tour aboard Sea Cloud

This grandest of tall ships was built in 1931 by American businessman E. F. Hutton for his wife, Marjorie Merriweather Post. Sea Cloud embodies true elegance and there is no ship afloat that can compare for grace, fine service and the sheer joy of sailing. She carries 30 sails (all raised by hand) measuring a total of 3,000 square metres, and a main mast towering some 54 metres above the deck.

Only a classic windjammer can give you that feeling of boundless freedom - a feeling that reaches its pinnacle as you sail the seas under open skies. This is a feeling that pervades the Sea Cloud at all times, manifested in the onboard lifestyle and forged by the expansive space of the three decks, the relaxed social atmosphere and the space for private contemplation. Accommodating just 64 guests, served by a crew of 60, you will always be able to find a quiet spot for relaxation or contemplation aboard this exquisite ship.

The lounge, oak-panelled restaurant, lido deck dining area and the cabins are all imbued with stylish comfort. Every area has its own way of enticing visitors, so you will still discover new favourite places even after days. The decks of Sea Cloud are therefore an ideal place to transform any journey into a very special experience.

Dining

Sea Cloud's oak-panelled restaurant was used as a salon by Sea Cloud's first owners. And since you are dining on a tall ship with the character of a private yacht, you are free to choose your place and company at the table. The chef's culinary creations are sure to impress even the most discerning of connoisseurs. Each day begins with an early-bird breakfast from 6:00 AM, with a scaled-down version of the breakfast buffet offered later. Lunch is served as a buffet on the lido deck or in the restaurant. In the afternoon, coffee and tea are served with some sweet treats. Dinner is a four-course menu with choices available and an additional vegetarian option. For the Gala Dinner, the executive chef will prepare an exclusive five-course menu. A midnight snack rounds the evening's culinary delights off nicely.

Features

If you are looking for something special, you are sure to find it aboard Sea Cloud.

Selected picture books, high-quality literature, popular board games and a writing desk with a laptop can all be found in the cosy lounge on the promenade deck. Next door is the oak-panelled restaurant, used as a salon by Sea Cloud's first owners. Just like on a private yacht, you can sit down to dine at the beautiful long tables and, of course, you can choose any place to sit as there are no fixed places.

If the weather is fine, you might like to sit on the lido deck at lunch time. The tasty snacks served at the buffet in the open air will both whet and satisfy your appetite. At certain times, the onboard pianist will provide pleasant background music to your conversations. The lido bar is an intimate place to wind down the evening. Befitting this traditional sailing ship, the atmosphere can also get rather vibrant when the Crew Shanty Choir makes an appearance.

Not only is the promenade deck a quick route from one end of the ship to the other, in good weather, you will also find some very tasty refreshments there. The coffee, tea and light snacks are ideal for those who rise early, but also to provide sustenance in the afternoon between meals. Just imagine a freshly made waffle with ice cream under the white sails of a ship - that really is pure paradise!

On board Sea Cloud there are many wonderful spots where you can relax and unwind; from countless deckchairs, to elegant mahogany benches and the blue lagoon, where you can gaze up at the masts. Watching the movement of the sails and all the traditional tasks associated with a majestic sailing ship is one of the most wonderful activities on the high seas. The traditional rules of cruise travel might be thrown overboard; on board Sea Cloud you can travel the way you prefer. If you like, you can jog around the outer promenade deck or borrow snorkelling equipment for a trip ashore. Sea Cloud's zodiac boats do not just take you ashore and back but are also used to tow 'Fun Island', the inflatable water sled. And when conditions are calm enough, the gangway becomes a direct access point for the most beautiful swimming pool in the world: the sea.

Excellent views of the sea and the 30 majestic sails can be enjoyed from Sea Cloud's bridge, where a range of historic nautical instruments almost conceal the modern technology. Operational circumstances permitting, the officers on the bridge will also be happy to answer questions about their sailing ship.
