Island Passage

Ship Overview

Operated by: Island Escape Cruises

Island Escape Cruises is a small-ship, niche adventure cruise company operating wildlife, wilderness, and scenic expedition cruises within the most beautiful regions of New Zealand during the southern hemisphere summer months (from November through April) and the beautiful islands of Tahiti between May and October.

The best comparison might be to think of Island Passage as a ship-based version of a luxury lodge.  The itineraries combine pristine wilderness, exotic islands, amazing wildlife, stylish accommodation, exceptional service, chef-prepared gourmet meals, experienced guides, freedom from roads and routes most travelled, and the enticing adventure of never knowing what’s around the next corner.

The passenger vessel Island Passage is a 42-metre purpose-built steel catamaran accommodating just 24 guests and ten professional crew. Guests are generally active adventurers, independent travellers and photographers.  Island Passage promises superb cuisine, a full complimentary bar with wine, spirits and beers, airport transfers and all activities in a child-free environment.

Dining

Island Passage's two chefs are dedicated to ensuring that every meal be magnificent. Local seafood, maybe even some that you caught yourself is featured daily. You’ll enjoy other delicacies and organic artisan foods produced locally. The best New Zealand organic lamb and Santo beef, fresh produce selected from local farmer’s markets, award-winning cheeses and all presented by chefs with a strong European air.

The ship's wine cellar is brimming with a selection of award-winning Australian and New Zealand wines. The list is constantly being updated with new releases together with a revolving collection personally selected from local boutique vineyards. A wide selection of juices, beers and spirits is also available. You won’t need to remember the recipe for your favourite aperitif; the ship's bar staff are well versed in the magic of mixology. The bar is open well into the wee small hours.

Dinner is usually served in the anchorage, or if you wish, alfresco on The Terrace under the stars. Breakfast and lunch are usually served on The Terrace, so that you won’t miss a minute of the beautiful scenery. Espresso, teas, juices, bottled water along with wine during dinner each evening are complimentary. The chefs cater for most special dietary requirements.

Features

The officers and crew of Island Passage are extremely well trained to ensure your safety and comfort. Several are from the super-yacht industry and understand your needs well in advance. The housekeeping crew aim to present the ship as if you are the first guests ever to step onboard. They do their utmost to provide perfection at all levels. The ship's guides transfer you ashore with bottled waters, snacks, sun screen, beach towels, daily sterilised snorkel gear, kayaks and, just in case things don’t go as planned, first aid kits.

For outdoor entertainment and shore excursions the ship carries a range of expedition craft, including a purpose-built landing craft, large tenders, sea kayaks, fishing and snorkelling equipment. The helicopter is available for trips beyond the range of the tenders or as required. The landing craft and tenders are designed to provide fast and efficient transport to and from the ship and are well suited for exploring the local bays, islands, and rivers that are right on your doorstep. All boats are manned with guides, two-way radios and safety equipment for your peace of mind.

There's never a dull moment aboard Island Passage, although lazing in a deckchair is always an acceptable option. During each trip, the ten-person crew is on hand to share their knowledge of the ocean and the local activities.
